Athletic Club - Atlético de Madrid Femenino

Athletic Club Women recorded a seventh consecutive win in Liga F after beating Atlético de Madrid 1-0 at Lezama thanks to a superb goal by Clara Pinedo.

On a sweltering morning, with the stands packed to the rafters, the Lionesses secured three points against an important rival and are now just two points away from the Champions League places. 

Athletic were superior in the first half and had the better chances, although the Colchoneras were also dangerous, especially from set pieces and crosses.

Pinedo netted the Zurigorri's goal with a wonderful strike in the first half. The Bilbao-born forward hit the ball first time off an Ane Azkona cross to surprise Lola Gallardo.

The Lionesses controlled the first half and the Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper denied the home side a couple more times in the first 45.

In the second half, Atletico stepped on the gas and had several chances to equalise. Eva Navarro, in the 69th minute, hit the crossbar and the Madrid-based players found their rhythm, stifling Athletic.

The visitors' dominance continued during the second half, but the minutes passed and they never got close to Adriana Nanclares' goal.

The fans backed the Lionesses during this rough patch and Athletic showed their resilience to secure a golden win. The Lionesses have now won seven on the bounce. The streak continues.
