Recognition of the work of the Foundation

Athletic Club Foundation has received the Gorakide award from the Provincial Council of Biscay and the Gorakide Association, through which they recognize the work of people and organizations committed to the full inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

Together with the Athletic Club Foundation, the Gorakide award has also been given to a hundred people and entities such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the faculties of the universities of Deusto and UPV-EHU, Kutxabank and educational centres, among others.

The Gorakide award is intended for entities and individuals from Biscay who are not directly related to the field of intellectual disability but who, nevertheless, have been involved in the full social inclusion of this group. This way, the Gorabide award recognizes the work of third parties while promoting a more favorable attitude towards people with intellectual disabilities. In the words of the president of Gorabide, Hugo Borja: “We want to reward those who favor our collective without having to do so”.

These are some of the social projects of the Athletic Club Foundation aimed at the group of people with intellectual disabilities:

The Ahalegina Program, consists of a series of multisport trainings and psychomotor improvement sessions aimed at children between 12 and 18 years old.

The Ahalegina Cup, a championship held at Lezama facilities between teams made up of people with intellectual disabilities from the Get-Be, Adizmi, GAUDE, Gordabide, tzgei, Antigua Luberri Apdema and Down Syndrome Foundation.

The Genuine team of the Athletic Club Foundation that competes in La Liga Genuine and is made up of a selection of players participating in the Ahalegina Cup. The Genuine Athletic Club team won the Fair Play award in the first edition of La Liga Genuine in 2018.
