Big league comeback has no final prize

Athletic Club has lost 2-0 against Sevilla FC in Sánchez Pizjúan. Ben Yedder and Munir have scored the two goals, each of them in the final minutes of each period.

The last matchday has not done justice to the great league comeback that our team started in December and Athletic is left without the final European prize. On top of this, the necessary point has slipped like sand between our fingers in the discount period: a shot by Iñigo Martínez has run into the crossbar and soon after has arrived the second local goal to empty goal.

A cruel end to a game with two scenarios. One, of mutual respect, until the 44th minute and another after the attempt to clear by Dani Garcia that Herrerin has repelled and riveted Ben Yedder.

After the break, Athletic has been gaining meters, but the cocktail between the heat and nervousness, has put iron to the legs and minds of our players.

After several headers away from the three sticks, the clearest opportunity has been the one referred to above, but the goalscoring debut of Martinez will have to wait. Sorrow and disappointment after the great 2019 that has completed our team and tha deserved better reward. Let’s hope this one arrives in 2019/2020.
