Before kick-off, Athletic striker Iñaki Williams, who made a record-breaking 203rd consecutive LaLiga appearance, received a tribute and a rousing ovation from the San Mamés crowd in honour of his achievement.

The Lions were awarded a penalty in the seventh minute after the referee went to the pitchside VAR and decided Ximo Navarro had handballed in the box. However, Raúl García‘s effort from the spot was stopped by Fernando Pacheco.

Raúl made up for it by scoring the winner in the 44th minute. The striker nodded in a close-range header from Iñigo Lekue‘s pinpoint cross into the box.

Athletic were barely troubled in the second half and saw out the match to take home all three points.
