One year since Berenguer’s first Athletic goal

The winger is celebrating his first anniversary at Athletic Club, where he has already played more than 50 games and scored nine goals.

Álex Berenguer is celebrating an important anniversary. The winger signed for Athletic Club from Torino FC on October 3 last year, the following day he made his debut playing the last 15 minutes against Deportivo Alavés at Mendizorrotza, the last fixture before the international break.

In the next match, his first at San Mamés, he started the game and got off the mark as a Lion with the opener in a 2-0 win over Levante. In total Álex has made 51 appearances and scored nine goals since joining the Lions.

His standout strike was his long-range effort in the second leg of the Copa semi-finals, also against Levante. It was this goal which sent the Bilbao-based side through to the final. Furthermore, he finished the campaign as Athletic’s top scorer in LaLiga Santander with eight goals.

This season he has already racked up almost 600 minutes of playing time. Having started in seven of the eight LaLiga fixtures so far this season, Berenguer is currently one of the most regular names on Marcelino’s teamsheets. What’s more, Alex scored in pre-season friendlies against Union Berlin and Liverpool FC.
