Athletic Club Marcelino García Toral stressed that the Lions cannot let their heads drop, urging them to peservere after Monday night’s 0-0 draw against Getafe CF in LaLiga Santander.
The Gaffer praised the side’s defensive display, but admitted much improvement is need in front of goal.
“Our offensive performance could have been better,” Marcelino said during his post-match press conference. “We lacked the composure needed to finish of moves. We played well in the first half. but in the second half we were more erratic when we had possession.
“We were fully committed and our attitude was superb. The team is competitive and wants to win, but we need goals to do that and in this aspect we have to improve.”
Athletic face three matches in quick succession at San Mamés, with Sevilla, Real Betis and Real Madrid visiting San Mamés before Christmas. Marcelino is hopeful the Lions will start picking up wins soon.
“We have to keep working. We need to improve offensively to gain confidence, something our players lack at the moment,” he added. “You can’t begrudge the players anything. Sometimes we play very well, sometimes less well. But we have to learn from our mistakes and win more, we all want to win more.”
