Athletic Club has defeated RCD Espanyol, 3-1, in San Mamés. Víctor Sanchez’ late goal was simply not enough for Aduriz, Viguera and Iturraspe’s goals.

Our team surpassed its opponent both in intensity and game and, in addition, has had enough patience until its first option, a header by Aduriz from a corner serve. This goal didn’t bring to an end the rojiblancos initiative, even after Borja Viguera scored his first goal in an official match with our jersey, shortly before halftime, which brought about the necessary peace of mind.

In the second half, Athletic read the fight well and Iturraspe’s amazing goal from outside the area left the visitor’s only goal at nothing.

The next meeting will take us to Lviv (Ukraine), where Shakhtar awaits in the UCL. Our team will give its best to keep its options of making the top three in the group open.
