Arenas Club - Athletic Club

Athletic Club won 1-6 against Arenas Club de Getxo in our first match of the pre-season, played in the fields of Fadura. The fixture was a response to Athletic Club’s commitment to join the events of the centenary of Arenas Club’s Copa del Rey victory in 1919. The final result was 1-6 to Athletic, who today wore green so as not to clash with the locals.

Before the opening minutes of the match has kept a minute of silence in memory of the former player and former coach of Athletic Koldo Aguirre, who was also a player of getxotarra team. The players of both teams have also wore mourning bracelet in his memory.

Gaizka Garitano has chosen the following starting eleven: Herrerín, Yeray, San José, Unai López, Muniain, Córdoba, Larrazabal, Yuri, De Marcos, Aduriz and Vesga.

From the start, the red-and-white have taken control of the game and in the 17th minute the referee invalidated a goal by Aritz Aduriz. In the 31st minute, Nacho Matador overtook the Arenas with a distant shot and six minutes later Unai Lopez, in a good personal move, shot at goal and the rejection pushed Aritz Aduriz into the back of the net to tie the game.

In the second half Garitano has introduced a new team composed by Jokin Ezkieta, Capa, Vivian, Nolaskoain, Balenziaga, Sancet, Dani García, Ibai, Iñigo Vicente, Raúl García and Williams.

Athletic has started sending again and Raúl García has had good opportunities to overtake the lions. In the first one, in the 51st minute, his header came out narrowly deflected. Shortly after, his shot went over the crossbar. Raul Garcia scored in the third minute. The striker has left first the center of the Arenas and then his goalkeeper to put ahead Athletic in Fadura in the 60th minute.

The third Athletic goal came via a great Iñaki Williams finished with an assist by Oihan Sancet in the 63rd minute. Then in 82, Iñigo Vicente got his first goal with the first team and a minute later Williams, avoiding the opposition goalkeeper, made it 1-6.
