Bilbao Athletic rescue a well-deserved point

Joseba Etxebarria’s side managed to draw 3-3 against SD Amorebieta after going into half time 0-2 down

Athletic Club’s reserve team have recorded five consecutive games without losing in the Second Division B Group II, after drawing 3-3 in the Biscayan derby against SD Amorebieta, thanks to the goals from Vencedor, Baqué and Artola in the early minutes of the second half.

The derby started level for both teams, none of them getting dangerously close to their opponents’ box. Past the half-hour mark, Bilbao Athletic conceded their very first goal as hosts this season, after a corner-kick netted in by Garro, who had substituted injured Micalo a few minutes before. Right before the break, on 42 minutes, the side received a heavy blow when Rementeria scored the second goal with a low strike, just after Ezkieta had cleared a cross from the right.

The second half had a hectic start, with three goals from Bilbao Athletic’s set-pieces between minutes 46 and 58: Vencedor from a free kick, Baqué scored with a header, and Artola put the ball into the net from the goal area after Saizar’s had cleared a header from Vivian. However, no sooner had Athletic Club’s reserve team taken the lead than they conceded Orozco’s definitive equalizer, drawing 3-3.

Next weekend, Bilbao Athletic will face Real Unión Club on the road, at Stadium Gal in Irun, on matchday 9.
