Bilbao Athletic get another three points at home, and counting. Under a heavy downpour at Lezama, the Cubs notched the victory again in their match with Unionistas de Salamanca (4-1) after stumbling in Burgos last week. Goalkeeper Jokin Ezkieta defended his goal like a wall, even stopping a penalty kick during the second half when they were 2-1.

The team from Salamanca tried to slow down the Cub’s initial push, but then Morcillo entered the area and was stopped by Ribelles, who was punished with a penalty. The attacker himself took the penalty kick, scoring on 19 minutes.  The visitors got gradually back into the game and Ezkieta prevented them from scoring the equalizer before going into the break, after a one-on-one play with Diego González.

Just three minutes into the second half, Unionistas levelled after a free kick taken by Góngora, which was cleared by Ezkieta and netted by González. The response of the red-and-white side did not take long to arrive and, on 59 minutes, the 2-1 goal was scored. Morcillo recovered the ball in their opponents’ box and, with his left foot, sent it to Baqué, who scored the goal that gave his team the advantage again. The side from Salamanca had a clear chance to equalize from 11 meters with less than ten minutes to go. However, Ezkieta played his role and saved both the penalty taken by David Grande and his next strike.

In the last part of the match, Bilbao Athletic finished off the game. On 81 minutes, after a corner-kick, Oier Luengo managed to score the 3-1 goal and Zarraga, during injury time, assisted Salado so that he could round off the final 4-1. The Cubs had to suffer against a rival who is not doing well in the table, but was very competitive. Etxebarria’s lads hold on to their first position in the Second Division B Group II standings, remaining unbeaten at Lezama.
