Bilbao Athletic have lost 2-0 against CD Guijuelo in the match corresponding to the 12th matchweek in the Second Division B Group II held at Municipal de Guijuelo. As a result, Joseba Etxeberria’s side keep having 29 points and now are sitting second in the table.

The cubs neither felt comfortable playing on the artificial turf at Guijuelo nor had a great scoring chance during the first half. On 24 minutes, a corner-kick taken by Cristobal Gil -the best chance CD Guijuelo had had until then-, was cleared for corner by Ezkieta’s fine save. It was the hosts’ first warning before Pablo Espina opened the scoring just three minutes later. They entered the interval with a single-goal margin.

The same dynamics were repeated in the second part and, in the 51st minute, Ezkieta had to make another stop after a fine play from the hosts. Immediately afterwards, Murua substituted captain Sillero. Zarraga gave it a go with a strike from outside the box but the ball went way over the crossbar. Half an hour before the end of the game, Lara could have increased the goal advantage for the team from Salamanca, but his shot was slightly diverted for corner. After that very corner-kick, Jesús Muñoz headed the ball off the line from inside the area, a great chance to round off the game. Goalscorer Pablo Espina slammed a shot against the crossbar, the same as Areso did with a cross-shot later. Salado and Córdoba substituted Prados and Morcillo respectively in the last two changes made by Etxeberria. However, the expected response never arrived, and Cristobal Gil killed off their last hopes with the second and definitive goal, a left-footed low strike on 86 minutes.

Bilbao Athletic will welcome CD Izarra at Lezama next weekend, in the match corresponding to the 13th matchweek, which will kick off on Sunday, December 1, at 6.30 pm.
