Levante LP - Athletic Club

Athletic Club Women lost their Liga F Matchday 3 fixture against Levante Las Planas in Barcelona. It was an end-to-end affair which could have gone either way, with Las Rojiblancas having good chances to find an equaliser towards the end of the match.

The Lionesses started the game well, adapting perfectly to the game and wanting the ball, but Levante Las Planas were not far behind. Jessica Martínez scored the hosts' opener from a corner in the 16th minute.

Athletic hit back quickly, Landaluze netting our first goal of the season after a well worked move. With the scores level, both side set about getting the upper hand. Arana forced a saver from Nay Cáceres with a header. Irina almost put the home side ahead before the break.

The second half started with good chances for both teams, Jessica and Baudet looked to restore the Catalans' lead, while Ane Azkona was close to grabbing Athletic's second in a one-v-one.

The drama came in the 59th minute when the referee mistakenly awarded Levante a penalty for a Landaluze handball even though it had actually hit the side of her body. Baudet converted the penalty, sending Quiñones the wrong way.

Nahikari Garcia tried to chip Cáceres, but the Venezuelan keeper raced back to stop the ball from crossing the line.

The Lionesses went for a broke to even the scores. Sanadri went close after connecting with Pinedo in the 87th minute and Zubieta tried her luck from range in the dying moments.
