Athletic Club - Levante UD

A massive victory for David Aznar's side as they defeat Levante UD 1-0 at Lezama on Sunday morning. The visitors came to Biscay in second place and without a loss to their name so far this season.

Energy, grit, determination and quality. The Zurigorri brought out all their strengths to overcome one of Liga F's most in-form sides.

The first half was a back-and-forth entertaining affair with decent chances for both teams. Sara Ortega, Nahikari García and Maite Zubieta all went close to opening the scoring for Athletic, while Maddi Torre cleared an Alba Redondo off the line at the other end.

Levante caused Athletic a lot of problems, but the Lionesses stood up to them and did not back down.

Athletic had a penalty shout after the restart and in the 54th minute a fantastic team goal from the Lionesses sent the Lezama crowd wild. A flowing move, full of skill and astuteness saw Nerea Nevado play in Azkona at the near post. A goal for the history books.

The goal was a massive boost for the Lionesses who had Levante on the ropes as they looked for a killer blow.

The visitors soon started to push back, but Athletic, with the help of the fans at Lezama, put in an excellent defensive effort. Levante had chances to equalise towards the end, but our defence and Adriana Nanclares held out heroically.

Three huge points and a great way to see out a final home fixture of the year. An unforgettable day.
