Nahikari and Amezaga lead Athletic to derby victory over Eibar
Athletic Women keep moving up the table thanks to a professional performance against Los Armeros at Lezama
Nahikari García, with a classy finish in the box, and Jone Amezaga, after a wonderful run, clinched a derby win against SD Eibar. The Lionesses mostly dominated but had to overcome a stubborn home side.
Athletic took the lead early on, with Ane Elexpuru's determined run down the byline before cutting back for Nahikari to score with a clinical left-footed shot at the near post.
Without creating any real chances, David Aznar's players were comfortable on the ball. And Eibar's only threat came via former Lioness Andrea Sierra.
After the break, Athletic stepped up a gear in an attempt to put the game to bed. Mariana could have scored with a beautiful lob that was cleared on the line by a defender. Landaluze went close with a header from a Pinedo corner.
However, Eibar resisted and the Lionesses didn't kill of the game until stoppage time when Amezaga struck to make it 2-0. The victory leaves Athletic seventh in the table ahead of Sunday's Copa tie against Madrid CFF at San Mames (17:00 CET).
