Levante UD - Athletic Club

Just like in the reverse fixture at Lezama, Athletic beat Levante UD. On that occasion, the Granotas came to Bizkaia unbeaten, and this time around, Athletic broke the side's unbeaten run at Buñol.

The home side took the lead but the Zurigorri came from behind in the second half thanks to goals by Azkona and Maddi.

Athletic competed well and were at a good level, despite having played against Barça at San Mamés in the Copa on Thursday.

Levante UD were rewarded for their efforts after a hard-fought first half. The intense wind, which went against Athletic Club for the first 25 minutes, made the game very difficult. Jone Amezaga stood out in attack with a couple of dangerous runs.

Redondo hit the crossbar with a cross and Andonova pounced on the rebound to put the home side ahead in the 44th minute. 

Athletic looked to maintain their game plan in the second 45, pressing high and causing Levante problems at the back.

Bibiane got on the end of a Pinedo cross but couldn't finish as the Lionesses kept pushing for an equaliser. Andonova threatened in the 62nd minute, but her effort went wide.

Athletic finally levelled in the 68th minute when Azkona headed in after a Zubieta free-kick which hit the crossbar.

The Lionesses kept battling and as the match entered its closing stages Maddi headed home from an Ortega corner to make it 1-2. It was the first goal of the campaign for Maddi, who has played every single minute of the season so far.

Now Las Rojiblancas needed to see out the game. Levante threw the kitchen sink at Athletic. Redondo struck wide and Nanclares was called upon to keep Athletic ahead.

A fantastic win for the Lionesses against one of Liga F's strongest side.
