The junior team advances, but not the Women’s

The Cup has shown both faces. The positive has been achieved by the junior team, after defeating Leganés 1-5 on Madrid ground, therefore advancing into the semifinals. The goals were scored by Llorente, Mario Sànchez (2), Del Puente and Garmendia.

On the negative side, the women’s team tied at 5 goals each, therefore leaving them out of the competition. Despite playing a great match – and at times having to play with one, two, and even three less players, the existing possibilities up to the last minute, did not materialize. The referee’s performance, disputable to say the least, and a rival that worked to slow the game, did not help, so that the goals by Lorena (2, 1 penalty), Iraia, Eva, and Eli were not enough to advance. Now, we can only think of the UEFA Women’s Cup which will be celebrated 21 – 25 August.
