Acts in memory of Javier Uria

Past Friday, 18 June, marked the anniversary of the death of our president Javier Uria.

On the occasion of this first anniversary, Athletic Club has organized the following acts:

On Thursday, 17 June, at 11:30 hours, a sculpture-monolith was unveiled in his memory at the Lezama facilities.

On Friday, 18 June, at 11:30 hours in Ibaigane, we presented the trophy that will be awarded, as of this year, to the winner of the International Youth Tournament Javier Uria Memorial

The sculpture, as well as the trophy, is the work of sculptor Carlos Purroy, a former Athletic Club player.

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that, also on Friday, Javier Uria’s family has announced that they will celebrate a mass at the Church of San Vicente, at 13:00 hours.

Likewise, on 19 June in Zeberio (Biscay), Javier Uria’s place of birth, the ‘I Javier Uria Memorial’ of professional hand ball will take place, with the participation of Asegarce’s best ‘pelotaris’ (players).

The festival, organized by Asegarce and the Zeberio City Council will begin at 17:00 hours and will, for the main match, offer the duel between Olaizola II-Zearra and Berasaluze VIII-Beloki. The match will be broadcast by TVE 1.

The program will be completed with a preliminary encounter -with a Biscayan majority- that will be played by pairs Agirre-Albizuri and Leiza-Nalda III.
