Muskiz was a town of blacksmiths… But, what bonds Muskiz to Athletic ‘Alirón’? According to history, in the mid XIX century several English industrialists came to work the mines and made football fashionable. When the mineral found was of great purity, a British worker would hang a sign that read ‘All Iron’ at the entrance to the mines. Back then, the miners received double the pay and a unanimous shout of joy could be heard throughout the town: ‘Alirón, Alirón ‘. Since then, in Bilbao, the titles of its club, Athletic, are celebrated by singing the ‘Alirón’. Alirón, Alirón, el Athletic campeón!
