Athletic Club in Vienna

The Athletic Club expedition are already in Vienna to take part in, on Thursday 3 December at 19:00 hours, the match corresponding to Group L’s fifth match day in the UEL’s Group stage. The flight departed at 10:30 hours from Bilbao airport and landed two hours and twenty minutes later in the Austrian capital where there was a temperature of 8 degrees and clear skies.

The group led by President Fernando García Macua, was accompanied by the Board members Juan Antonio Zarate, Jon Lertxundi, Emilio Prieto and Mónica Durango. Also on the same charter flight were about twenty members of the media that follow Athletic Club and several Red-White supporters.

It’s cold in Vienna, the image is far from that of 16 February, 2005, when the expedition members and thousands of fans who had gone to Vienna were met with grey skies, a city under the snow and a pitch in a lamentable state to practise football, so much so, as we all know, that the encounter had to be put off.

The team, who are staying at the Marriot hotel, will have lunch at 14:00 hours and afterwards will go to their rooms before having the official training session at 19:00 hours at the Franz-Horr-Stadium. Austria Wien have their last official training session scheduled at 17:00 hours at the same scene, where it is estimated that around 500 fans will be there tomorrow to get behind our team.
