VII Saint Prudence Tournament
Four Biscayan teams and one from Gipuzkoa have achieved top spot in their respective categories…
Four Biscayan teams and one from Gipuzkoa have achieved top spot in their respective categories in the VII edition of the Female Football Saint Prudence Tournament that took place last weekend at Betoño’s sporting facilities, in Gasteiz.
Pauldarrak from Barakaldo, in the Juvenile and Youngsters divisions; Aloña Mendi, from Oinati, in the Cadets division; Athletic Club in the Junior division and Erandio in the Seniors have all been proclaimed Champions after a series of lively encounters that were played at the Betoño football fields.
‘To get 740 sports girls keen on football together on a weekend is something that is achieved on very few occasions’, explained Iñaki Egües the organizer of the contest. ‘Basques and Riojans have given a good display of good play, in spite of the thunderstorms and rain in the late afternoon, for their mates and families that had gone to Gasteiz’.
Deborah, from Erandioko Neskak, and Ohiane Baldezate, from Pauldarrak, were chosen as ‘the best players of the tournament’ and Ane Ochoa from Zuazola and Leire Rodríguez, both from Gasteiz Cup, received the title for being ‘the best goalkeepers’ of the contest. In the Cup stage, the winners were: Real Union de Irun – Seniors, Irun Artia -Juniors, Bergara – Juvenile and Mariño – Youngsters. The Gasteiz Cup team from Alava led by Dafne Triviño were second in the Juvenile category.
Other teams, like Urki, Baskonia, La Merced, Iturgarpe, Bizkerre, Ikasberri, Tolosa, Hamaika Bat, Kaskagorri and Amorebieta, in their different categories, played magnificently. This event was supported by Alava’s Provincial Government, Coca-Cola, Schuss and Kaiku.
Among those present were Iñigo Juaristi, Athletic Club’s female team’s general coordinator, José Álvarez from the Biscayan team,Emilio Ona from the Federation of Alava and Iraia Iturregi, Athletic Club Superliga player.
