Last Sunday, February 5th, Jaime Escudero, a former Athletic player, passed away. He played for our club for one season in the year 1949-50.

Born in Bilbao on February 22, 1923, Jaime Escudero and his family come from a long line of tradition for the red and white. His brother was Rafa Escudero, who was an amateur and was called up in an emergency to play for the First Division Athletic team in the 1943-44 season. He was also the nephew of the great Germán Echevarria “Maneras”, who played for fourteen seasons for Athletic and in which he won five Copas and eight Regional Champion tournaments.

Escudero was a forward player who transferred from Indautxu. In Athletic, he played in the left as well as the right. He participated in seven games total; four in Liga and three friendly matches.

His studies in medicine obliged him to abandon his place in Athletic Club. However, upon moving to Barcelona, he played for FC Barcelona under the tutelage of Daucik in seasons 1950-51 and 1951-52. After that, he played for the Red Star in Paris.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 8th at 19:00 hours in San Vicente Mártir Church in Abando (Bilbao).
