Nekane saves a point in Zubieta

Nekane rescues a point in the final moments of the match against Real Sociedad and does justice to the merits that the rojiblancas had made to bring something positive out of their visit to Zubieta. The first half ended goalless. After the break, Ane Bergara took advantage of the only occasion Real had in the second half, and scored. With time running out for the rojiblancas, Nekane did not let her second attempt at a goal go to waste.

The first opportunity of the game was for Ainhoa Vicente in the minute five, from a cross by Maria down the right wing that Real’s player shot off target. Athletic tried to take the initiative on a complicated playing field due to the rain and hail storm that fell prior to kick-off. In the 22nd, Lizaso was ready to deflect Nahikari’s shot on goal. Athletic was unable to get set-plays right. From the rojiblancas, a cross by Izaskun and a header by Erika which Ainara saved from going in.

In the second half, Real Sociedad took advantage of a corner serve to take the lead. Ane Bergara took advantage of a ball sent by Baños to push it into the Ane Otxoa’s goalmouth. Five minutes later, Erika made the first attempt for the tie, from a crossed shot. Yulema Corres’ entrance served to give more verticality to the rojiblanco attack. Nekane had a good option in the 65th; Orueta, in the 68th, tried it with a shot to the far post that was also off target. Nekane could have drawn in a closing with Quiñones surpassed but Ane Bergara was there for the save. Athletic was in search of the draw and in a good play by Y. Corres, Nekane picked up the pass inside the area to score the equalizer.
