This Sunday, 15 February, at 19:00 hours, the closure of the 2015 edition of the Thinking Football Film Festival will be held in Sala BBK of Bilbao (Gran Via, 19), with the screening of the film ‘Soccer and immigration: 100 years of common history’, directed by the legendary footballer Eric Cantona.
‘Football and Immigration’ narrates the story of the role of immigration in French football, in the French National team and Gallic society as a whole. Since 1930 until the present, the composition of the Gallic team is a perfect reflection of the plurality of the French population, to the point that the great waves of immigration received by France could be summarized in four football player’s names: Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Zinédine Zidane and Basile Boli. Eric Cantona, whose descendents are not French (his mother was an exiled Catalan republican) constructs a touching story at the hand of and through the testimony of football players like Zinédine Zidane, Basile Boli, Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Jean Tigana and Maryan Wisnieski and with the collaboration of actor and comedian Jamel Debbouze.
After the screening of the film, attendees will be able to engage in dialog with the film director, Eric Cantona, via video-conference.
Furthermore, a small debate on immigration and football in Athletic Club and Biscay will also take place, in which the player Iñaki Williams will be participating.
Afterwards, the 2015 Thinking Football People’s Choice Award will be announced; the Film, Football and Society Festival organized by the Athletic Club Foundation along with Sala BBK and with the collaboration of the Bilbao City council.
We remind the public that admission is free, subject to available seating. Additional information on www.thinkingfootballfilmfestival.com
