Sevilla FC 1 Athletic Club 2 (5-4)

Athletic Club has defeated Sevilla FC 1-2 at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium, however, our team could’t get through the semi-finals of the UEL after losing the penalty shoot-out (5-4). Aduriz and Raúl García were the authors of our goals while Gameiro scored goal for the local team.

In spite of the fact that we are knock out from the UEL competition, it will be a memorable match, not only for being able of beating the record of wins during a season (29), mostly, due to the match in itself and the end, that allowed us to enjoy with the virtues of our Club: Character, strength, fight and never giving up, even if the atmosphere was devoted to the opponents.

What Athletic achieved, supported with 2.000 fans at the stadium and much more around the world, is that we are still, specially on defeats. The penalty shoot-out was just an unlucky anecdote.

The game began with an attempt for Aduriz but with a better opening minutes for Sevilla. However, Athletic made a good first half, with no goals in the scoreboard until the interval. During the second time our team scored the first goal and even if Gameiro leveled the game quickly, nothing changed despite of the injury of Bóveda and Aduriz, who had been replaced.

When there were less than ten minutes left for the stoppage time, Raúl García planted a header which allowed to play the extra-time. Penalties were required and the best player of the game’s effort when to goalkeeper’s hands. This is how football, and sometimes, Athletic, is.

Now is time to focus on the next match between Málaga and Athletic Club to make an additional step to consolidate in European positions.
