Friendly match against Liverpool in Dublin

Athletic Club will play a friendly match against Liverpool FC in Dublin. The match will be held on Saturday, August 5 at Aviva Stadium starting at 18:15 hours.

The August match will be the first time both teams measure their strength after the European match in 1983. The double European Cup match ended with a goalless draw in the first leg at Anfield and a ‘red’ win in the second leg (0-1) goal scored by Ian Rush.

The continental premiere between Athletic and Liverpool took place in the round of 64 of the Feria Cup of the 1968-69 season. The English equalized at Anfield the 2-1 of the first leg at San Mamés and as penalties were not yet established, the tie was cleared to the heads or tails with a coin toss that fell from the rojiblanco side.
