IX Congress of the Southern Association of Peñas

Last weekend, 14 and 15 October, the IX Congress of the Southern Association of Peñas of the Athletic Club was held in the town of Sabiote. The organization fell this year in charge of the Peña Athletic ‘El Castillo’ Sabiote.

During the two days the peñas Bailen, Ubeda, Sabiote, Escañuelas, Rus, Torreperojil, Villacarrillo, Macael, El Ejido and Malaga gathered in the city of Sabiote.

The day began on Saturday at the headquarters of the organizer, with a good Andalusian breakfast, based on the best extra olive oil and toast, accompanied by an aromatic coffee. Taking this way forces to follow a historical tour through the locality, with the traditional visit to the Castle. Considered as the most important construction that for military purposes was built in the sixteenth century in the province of Jaén and older example of how many are still preserved today as a castle-bastion of the Renaissance. Subsequently, a meal was made and in the afternoon a football match. The day ended with a grand gala dinner where the exchange of gifts took place between the peñas.

Sunday began with a visit to the Andalusian Oil Cooperative of San Ginés and San Isidro, where after a typical breakfast with tasting of virgin olive oil, proceeded to the Ordinary and Extraordinary Assemblies of the Southern Group of Peñas del Athletic Club, where the various items on the agenda were approved, and Francisco Mañas Pastor and Juan Martín Escalona were named as new Delegates of the Southern Zone. Also, two new members, Mr. Mariano García Ruiz and Mr. Miguel Ángel Callejón, joined the Board of the Southern Group.

And finally, a closing meal of the IX Congress of this South Grouping was held, giving the relief for the next year to the Peña Athletic Club Centenario Rus El Mármol.
