Athletic Club President Josu Urrutia and Deputy General Unai Rementeria have signed an agreement for the implementation of a series of environmental measures through the public company Garbiker, in order to increase the recycling rate of waste in Bizkaia.
Within the framework of this collaboration agreement, the agreement signed establishes two primary objectives. Firstly, the Club is committed to optimizing the collection and removal of waste generated at its facilities in San Mames and Lezama. Secondly, a joint environmental awareness campaign will be developed. This campaign aims to raise awareness, through the strength of the Athletic Club brand, to the Athletic Club’s fans and, by extension, to all the population and visitors of the Territory of Bizkaia, on the importance of recycling and the appropriate treatment and management of waste.
Athletic Club takes another step in its commitment to the environment and adds this agreement to other previous initiatives. Among them, it should be noted that the field of San Mamés was the first football stadium in Europe to achieve sustainable building certification LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – the most important internationally in this area. The Club also participated in the program of the City Council called ‘Towards a low carbon strategy in Bilbao 2015’.
