Athletic Club players Lucía Córdoba and Maite Oroz have chosen the comic ‘Valerosas’ (Dibbuks) by the French author Pénélope Bagieu, among all the reading suggestions received from the Letras y Fútbol web. The book reflects on the lives about thirty women who faced any kind of setbacks so as to live the way they wanted.
Sportswomen, musicians, writers, doctors, activists, explorers… The female protagonists of ‘Valerosas’ have something in common: all of them have bravely fought the obstacles imposed by a sexist society.
After today’s training, Athletic Club’s ladies squad and the technical team discussed the book and the stories embodied in it. Topics such as sorority and empowerment of women brought up, as well as why the majority of these role-model women are completely unknown, whether today’s women still have to deal with the same issues or the key role of sportswomen regarding the transformation of a patriarchal society into a fairer one.
In that sense, they have addressed the comic more like an essay than a fictional work.
