Josemari Amorrortu (Deusto, 1953) closes a stage in his long professional career marked by his link to Athletic Club, with the vocation and willingness to keep collaborating with which he considers, the team of his life. The deustuarra has served the zurigorri team during different periods of his career and carrying out different central tasks for the Club.
Throughout more than twenty years he has been linked to Athletic Club. In any of the activities he has developed, Amorrortu has always shown his professionalism and his zurigorri commitment. The importance of his work increases if one considers that he has had to develop his task in an increasingly difficult football environment, where competition from others clubs has grown year after year from the 90´s until the current situation. in which Athletic Club competes against close and distant rivals of great economic capacity also interested in attracting young values.
As a footballer, he played five seasons in the first team between 1973 and 1978, and won two sub championships, one in the Cup and the other in the UEFA Cup, both won in 1977 and lost in the finals against Real Betis and Juventus. He played 127 matches between the League, Cup and European competitions and scored 10 goals.
As a coach, he headed the U19 champion and was Jump Heynckes’ assistant in the first team upon the German coach’s arrival rom 1992 to 1994. He then replaced Irureta by mid 1994/95 season likewise he supplied Stepanovic during the subsequent course in the 95/96 season. On both occasions managed to bring the ship to safety. At that time, he had already developed in the Club the facet in which he has stood out the most and to which he has dedicated the most time of his professional career: the one of sports director.
