Malin Möstrom: “It is an honor and pride to receive this award”

The president of Athletic Club, Aitor Elizegi, and the ex-footballer of Umeå IK, Malin Moström, the first woman to be granted with the One Club Woman Award, held a press conference in Lezama this afternoon to present the prestigious award. The event has been attended by the staff of the first female team, whose previous training has been followed with attention by the 113 times Swedish international, Malin Moström, and accompanied by members of the Board of Directors such as the president himself and the vice-president, Mikel Martínez.

For the Sweedish ex-player, “when the winner of the prize was known, it was quite a surprise, of course, but a big honor.” Malin Moström feels that it is “a very important award not only for her and her club, but also for women footballers in general, and especially considering the current situation of the football at the moment.” The prizewinner said that she “felt happy and very happy to be in the facilities of Lezama” and valued very positively the work of Athletic Club. “I really love this philosophy,” she said, and even joked that she would like to play with the first women’s team.

When asked about her professional career, she underlined “the winning of the first Swedish League and the first Champions League, and also the pride of representing Sweden in the World Cup and reach the final, although the loss.” The mythical ex-footballer also admitted that she had “opportunities to play in other teams, but her decision to stay in Umeå IK was very easy”. Finally, Malin Moström confessed that her two daughters, present in the room with her husband “play football and hopefully will dedicate themselves to it, but it is their decision. I can only convey to them the joy of being part of a team.”
