CD Bilbao celebrates its 125th anniversary

Club Deportivo Bilbao, who were pioneers in introducing several sport disciplines not only in Bilbao but in the whole Basque Country, commemorate their 125^th anniversary organizing diverse events. A gala, to which their 4,300 members and several institutional representatives were invited, has been held in order to celebrate all these years of history. President Aitor Elizegi, Board Member Jorge Gómez, the president of the Foundation, Juan Carlos Ercoreca, and General Director Jon Vázquez-Eguskiza attended the event in representation of Athletic Club.

Founded in 1894 and born under the name of Sociedad Gimnástica Zamacois, they became the current Club Deportivo in 1912, fusing with Federación Atlética Vizcaína and Educación Física. The Club is considered to be an important part of the change Bilbao has undergone through the years as it is one of the institutions that introduced a considerable number of the sports played in the Biscayan capital nowadays. Among these sports we can make special mention to gymnastics, athletics, cycling, Basque pelota, basketball, swimming, rugby, weight lifting, motorcycling, sailing, climbing, caving, skiing, boxing, chess, kayaking, tennis, hockey and even circus entertainment.
