Carmelo and Williams, two titans on a streak

After the record of the most consecutive games played in LaLiga has been beaten, Cedrún and Iñaki will see each other at San Mamés this Sunday

133 matches, and counting. Iñaki Williams has passed the mark that the legendary goalkeeper from Durango, Carmelo Cedrún, had set back in his time, which now makes him lead this particular classification in Athletic’s history. In a more explosive football, with a very busy calendar, large squads and their rotations, Williams continues giving his all week after week. The 132 games Carmelo played in a row were also praiseworthy, as he had to tackle the rough football played at the time, with no substitutions or breaks, having far fewer fixtures per season. Two players forged in iron that will have the chance to see each other before the match between Athletic and Granada kicks off this Sunday.

Carmelo Cedrún will enjoy the match against the Andalusian team from the Directors’ Box in San Mamés, in the company of his loved ones. The Mayor of Aspe, Antonio Puerto, in representation of their City Council, has also been invited to the event. From the beginning, and in order to help our Supporters’ Club in this town from Alicante, they have shown their active involvement in the organization of the next International Congress at the beginning of next May.

The rest of Supporters’ Clubs that will join them in the Directors’ Box at San Mamés will be those from Cascante, Miranda de Ebro, Peña Oskar Tabuenka, Elorrixo, El Ribero, Eragobe from Erandio, Erik Morán from Portugalete and Peña de Espinosa de los Monteros.
