Eunate and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The red-and-white defender, a great example of overcoming difficulties, celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at her daily sign language classes.

Yesterday Eunate Arraiza enjoyed a special day within her daily routine with the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day raises awareness about the capacity this large group has to overcome difficulties.

After the morning session in Lezama, the red-and-white footballer, who suffers from complete deafness in her left ear from birth, travelled to Bilbao to attend one of her weekly appointments (Tuesdays and Thursdays) with sign language classes. In Euskal Gorrak, the Basque Federation of Associations of Deaf People, the defender of Athletic Club is learning how to communicate in this language along with other students. In class you only hear laughter, nobody speaks.

The footballer from Navarre, who has just renewed her contract with Athletic, does not know how her hearing impairment will evolve and if there will come a day when she can stop perceiving sounds or is unable to articulate a word. As the player from Zurigorri points out, “we are normal people and we are capable of doing absolutely everything, those who believe that they are not mistaken“. Eunate represents one of the greatest examples of overcoming at Athletic Club.
