Garitano: “Only at the end we played as we know”

“I can’t be satisfied because we wanted to win.”  This is how Gaizka Garitano has summed up the draw between his side and SD Eibar in the derby held at San Mamés. Despite his disappointment at not getting the three points, Athletic Club’s manager has valued the solid defensive performance of his team: “I can say I am glad that, after conceding three goals last Sunday, today we haven’t let them have any chances. But it’s true that we’ve lacked the ability to get past Eibar, we only found our game in the last 25 minutes, only then we did have a real chance to win.”

Garitano has analysed the match in depth, pointing out the response his players gave during the last third of the game, where they were about to get a win: “We probably didn’t do things well in the first half, but we have to bear in mind that our opponents put a lot of pressure on us. We couldn’t come up with an idea to get out of there, but Eibar proved their merit. There were lots of stoppages and they were the ones who set the pace of the game most of the time. In the second half, we were nearer to their box and the three major chances of the match were ours.”
