Jon Rahm, guest of honour in the match against Eibar

The professional golfer from Barrika will be watching the match against Eibar from San Mamés Directors’ Box

He has certainly earned his reputation as our most universal sportsperson. Jon Rahm has rounded off a great season with a hectic schedule in the last twenty days. First, he became the European Tour’s Order of Merit winner, an award only accessible to the most noteworthy players; yesterday, Friday, he got married at the Basilica of Begoña; and today he will take the honorary kick-off at San Mamés. Jon will be watching the match against Eibar from San Mamés Directors’ Box accompanied by his wife Kelley Cahill and his loved ones.

Together with Rahm, former presidents José Julián Lertxundi, José María Arrate, Ana Urquijo and Fernando García Macua have confirmed their attendance. Javier Clemente, manager of the Basque Country national team, has also been invited, as well as prominent personalities Hristo Stoichkov and Ibon Urizar Azpitarte, who had a bitter confrontation during a Supercopa match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Bulgarian forward stamped on the Basque referee’s foot and was subsequently suspended and booed off because of his ill-natured behaviour. 29 years later, the quarrel has been left far behind and, with the time, they have become friends, showing now great respect for each other.

Among the rest of the guest, we highlight the presence of Yann Battefort, the new French consul in Bilbao; Darío Urzay, the recognized artist from Bilbao who has had his works in display at Galería Mejuto until recently and is also remembered by Athletic Club’s followers as the designer of the team’s shirt in 2004.

Representatives of C.D.Galdakao, Hiriburuko de Saint Pierre d’Irube and women’s team Leioako Emakumeak have also been invited. Not forgetting the presence in the Directors’ Box of the following Supporters Clubs: Catedral de León, Bembibre, Nuevo San Mamés, Etxegoien, La Gabarra de Lepe, Euskadiko Onenak Taldea, Gabarra Athletic and Peña Athletic Euskal Lions.
