“We would like to give a joy to San Mamés”

Midfielder Iñigo Martínez appeared at midday today in the Lezama press room after Athletic Club’s morning training session. The red-and-white player has highlighted the team’s desire to play again at San Mamés: “We cannot finish the year as we wanted, and we have that debt pending with the fans. We want to give them some joy. We are looking forward to the match and are determined to win.”

Regarding the rival of Sunday, the RC Celta (San Mamés, 6.00pm), the player from Ondarroa has emphasized the need of the Galician team to score: “It is a very dangerous team. They want to get out of the bottom of the table and for that they need points. They are not having any luck, but they have great players who can cause danger at the top. If we are not active, they will cause us problems.”

In this sense, Iñigo Martínez has underlined the strength that Athletic Club has been showing throughout the season: “It is not easy for any rival to face us. They know that we get together well, that we are very generous, that we all run and that nobody relaxes. It is also true that it is difficult for us to create chances and we work every day to improve in that sense, but the work of the team is exceptional.”

Asked about his personal situation, the red-and-white midfielder says he is “in a sweet spot. I have to continue in this line because it is the best for Athletic and for me.“
