AC Museoa rescues for the box memories of the confrontations against Osasuna that date back to the 1920s

The display cabinet that will be presented tomorrow in the authorities’ box takes us back to the 1920s. More specifically, to December 8, 1925, the day of the second match played between Athletic and Osasuna in their history, which also ended with a local victory by 5 to 1.

On the one hand, there is a photograph of the line-up of the Navarre team (which included the future Athletic players Juanín Bilbao and Juan Urquizu, who was also the coach of the lions for 8 seasons).

Next to this picture, the settlement of the match. In addition to the date, line-ups, result (5 to 1 in favour of Athletic), or the name of the referee, all the income (more than 4,000 pesetas for tickets, with prices from 8 to one and a half pesetas), together with the expenses (from the fees of the referee of the San Mamés staff and Osasuna, taxes, advertising, lemonades, coffee or sugar) and the final positive balance of 171.41 pesetas are recorded.

A small sample of what was already moving around a football that in the case of Athletic would take on professionalism a few months later.

History of matches
Without counting this Sunday’s match, Athletic Club and Club Atlético Osasuna have played a total of 118 matches, counting official and friendly matches. Of which Athletic has won 57, drawn 33 and lost 28.

The first match between both teams was a friendly one. It was played at San Mamés on November 4, 1923, without the club having completed three years since its foundation.

The match, won by red-and-white’s 5-3, left a very good feeling, and friendly matches against Osasuna were usual during those years. They played up to ten matches before facing each other in official competition, a fact that happened on September 30, 1934 within the context of the Basque Cup.
