“Now we must put in a good performance in LaLiga”

Gaizka Garitano has talked to the media in the press conference at Lezama ahead of tomorrow’s clash, in which Real Valladolid and Athletic Club will meet each other in the 27th LaLiga Santander league fixture. The red-and-white manager expressed his satisfaction with his side’s win last Thursday, when they beat Granada CF in the Copa del Rey semi-final: “I feel happy for our fans. They are enthused and we can feel their support. We have managed to get here together, always encouraged by the strong bond that links us“.

But the boss admitted that not focusing on the domestic competition from now on would be a mistake: “In football, you can never think of what you will be doing in a month’s time, the immediate future is what counts. We must turn our minds to LaLiga and forget about everything else, otherwise we’d be very much mistaken. LaLiga is what matters right now and we must put in our best performance in it. ”

Tomorrow’s opponents Real Valladolid have not been beaten by the lions under Garitano’s management so far. Despite playing against a difficult rival, the coach from Derio expects to get a victory on the road to extend the positive feeling they had in the latest clashes: “They’re a well organised team and have footballers with good feet. They’re doing very well under Sergio’s management. We come from playing two key matches, both of them with good results, and that should push us forward to end the week well. We’ll do as much as we can to grab an away win. It’s the aim we’ve set ourselves, we want to win on the road again“.
