San Mamés lights up for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Athletic Club has joined the Regional Government of Biscay for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence agaisnt Women on the November 25.

The invisible attitudes that form the steps prior to misogynist violence are the focal point of the Regional Government’s central message on this day, summed up in their the slogan: “See it for what it is, it’s gender violence”. The initiative’s aim is to demonstrate that certain behaviours can later lead to sexist violence, meaning we must detect them and put a stop to them.

The campaign complements programmes for the care of victims of misogynist violence, one of the gravest violations of Human Rights which still occurs in Biscay. For example, last year the Regional Government offered psychological support to 95 female victims of domestic abuse who remain in or return to the house where their abuser lives, as well as to the 73 minors in their charge. The demand for these types of programmes has more than tripled (3.5) since they were introduced in 2006, when 57 people were attended to.
