Bilbao and Biscay turn red and white for the Copa finals

As the Copa final against Real Sociedad edges closer, as well as the chance to win two trophies in two weeks, Bilbao and the whole of Biscay are backing Athletic

With the Copa del Rey 2019-20 final against Real Sociedad fast approaching (Saturday, April 3. 21:30 CEST), the citizens of Bilbao and Biscay are well and truly getting in the spirit. The colours red and white are almost always in sight, as homes, shop fronts and landmarks have been appropriately decorated for the big event.

Biscay is a region that breathes and lives football like no other. And every one these acts of support only serves to demonstrate the sense of belonging among all Athletic fans, as well as their great hope – that the Lions will lift the Copa del Rey once more.

Ibaigane, the club’s headquarters, together with the most relevant institutions and entities in Biscay, are covered in red and white decorations. The town councils, with Bilbao’s taking the lead, and the Provincial Council have raised the Athletic flag and put on the shirt with the same feeling of pride as all the school children in Biscay.

The Bilbao Metro has decorated its entrances and exits. And buses throughout the province now carry the slogan which unites all Athletic fans under one dream: “Bizi Ametsa” (Live the dream).

Perhaps the most exciting thing is to see how contagious the enthusiasm has been, with thousands of people joining in the fun: from countless shop windows in Bilbao, to the windows and balconies of thousands of homes in Biscay and beyond. Wherever you look, wherever you go, Athletic is there. It’s further proof Athletic is part of the identity of the very society it represents on the pitch.
