Athletic Club kick off pre-season with medicals at IMQ
Between Monday and Wednesday, the Lions will undergo medical examinations at the IMQ Zorrozaurre Sports Medicine Unit
Athletic Club got the 2021-22 pre-season underway on Monday with initial medicals at the IMQ Zorrozaurre Clinic’s Sports Medicine Unit and various physical tests at Lezama.
These tests will take place during mornings of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On the afternoon of July 7, Marcelino García will oversee his first training session of the season.
Among the many medical tests that will be carried out, the examination includes: a blood test, assesments of weight, height and body fat, as well as a resting cardiac and pulmonary evaluations, lactate threshold tests, heart ultrasound, isokinetic assessment to measure muscle strength and a biomechanical podiatric study.
The heads of the Club’s medical staff, Dr. Josean Lekue and Dr. Paco Angulo, are working alongside professionals and specialists from IMQ -Athletic Club’s official medical provider since the 1998-99 season- who are led sports medicine specialist by Dr. Pablo Aranda and Jorge Diez, Grupo IMG business director.
“As the demands of competitive football become tougher, we at the Sports Medicine Unit try to keep up to date and carry out complete and thorough tests,” said Aranda about the fitness tests.
“This provides the head-coaches and staff with as much information as possible about each player, making sure they can train in the most effective way to get the very best out of each athlete.”
