Youtube Athletic to show the Copa de Campeones Juvenil final

This Saturday at 12:00 CEST, Athletic’s Youtube channel will broadcast live the final of the Copa de Campeones (a youth football competition) between Athletic Club Under-18s and FC Barcelona, at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas.

Those wishing to attend the match in person can purchase tickets at the stadium ticket office on Saturday morning. There will be 850 tickets up for sale at €10 each.

Athletic qualified for the tournament as champions of Group II of the Liga Juvenil División de Honor, with 74 points and only two defeats in the whole campaign. In the Copa de Campeones, they defeated UD Las Palmas 1-0 in the quarter-finals in Lezama before beating Real Betis in the semi-finals at Las Rozas by the same scoreline.

FC Barcelona topped Group III with 85 points and in the Copa de Campeones they beat Valencia CF 2-0 at La Masiá and RC Celta 4-3 in the semi-finals at Las Rozas.

Jon Solaun’s charges have made Athletic Club history, becoming the first side to reach the final since the tournament was restructured in 1994. In addition to crowning our Under-18s as the best of their age group in Spain, winning the trophy would give Athletic a place in next season’s UEFA Youth League, a competition they last played in when the senior side were involved in the 2014/15 Champions League.

Our Under-18s have not been crowned the best youth team in Spain since the 1991/92 season, at which time the competition had a different name and format. Then called Liga de Honor and only featuring clubs whose first team participated in the Primera División, an Athletic squad containing a young Julen Guerrero managed a prestigious double, winning the League and also the Youth Copa del Rey
