First pre-season training session for Athletic Club Women

The Lionesses carried out their first session of the 2022/23 term on Friday morning under the watchful eye of President Uriarte

On Friday morning, Athletic Club Women completed their first training session of the 2022/23 pre-season. Lezama was opened to the public and several Athleticzales attended as the Lionesses kicked off a new campaign.

Club president Jon Uriarte, along with vice-president Nerea Ortiz and vice-secretary Xabi Álvarez, spoke to the players in the dressing room before then watching on from the sidelines as the first-team began their preparations.

Iraia Iturregi’s coaching staff has only one new addition compared to last season. Orkatz Martín has taken over from Manex Sagarna as goalkeeper coach.

The Biscay native is not a new face as such as he was in charge of both the first team, youth and technical goalkeeping from 2010/11 until 2014/15. Previously, between 2005-2007, he was also at the Athletic Club Goalkeeping School.

On Friday afternoon, the team will return for another session on the pitch in addition to some gym work. On Saturday the group will train again and on Sunday they will rest before heading to a training camp in Aragon on Monday.

The players called up to take part in the first-team pre-season are: Garazi Murua, Naroa Uriarte, Oihane Valdezate, Nekane Díez, Marta Unzué, Yulema Corres, Leyre Monente, Oihane Hernández, Irene Oguiza, Eunate Arraiza, Ane Azkona, Itxaso Uriarte, Paula Arana, Ainhize Barea, Mariasun Quiñones, Mariana Cerro, Naia Landaluze, Amaia Peña, Nerea Nevado, Bibiane Schulze, Sara Ortega, Amaia Martínez, Jone Amezaga, Alejandra Estefanía, Paula Esteban y Claudia Fernández.

Clara Pinedo, Ane Elexpuru and Maite Zubieta, currenty with the Spanish Under-20 squad, will join the team once their involvement in the Under-20 World Cup in Costa Rica, which kicks off on August 10, is over.
