Athletic draw UD Alzira as first opponents of the 2022-23 Copa
On November 12 or 13, Athletic will begin their 22-23 Copa campaign against UD Alzira, the Segunda Federación side celebrating their centenary this year
Athletic Club will face Unión Deportiva Alzira in the first round of the 2022-23 Copa del Rey. The tie, a single match, will be played on 12 or 13 November in the town of Alzira (Valencia). Due to the rules of the draw, Copa matches are always played at the stadium of the lower-ranked team. In this case, UD Alzira, who are celebrating their centenary this year, currently compete in the Segunda Federacíon (the fourth tier of Spanish football).
The Valencian team are 15th in Group 3 of the Segunda Federación with seven points, after two wins, a draw and five defeats. Alzira are set play CD Arenteiro in the final of the Copa Federación against after eliminating CD San Roque de Lepe in the semi-finals.
This will be the first official meeting between UD Alzira and Athletic Club. However, both teams met in a friendly match at the Luis Suñer Picó stadium on 20 July 2011, which ended in a 0-3 win the Lions thanks to goals from Carlos Gurpegi and Fernando Llorente (x2).
