"Dream come to where I am" - Copa 2023

Drawing inspiration from popular Basque song "Amets" (Dream), Athletic asks those with "red blood and white hearts" to keep chasing this Copa dream together

Childhood dreams are a permanent, vital source of inspiration and Athletic Club has turned to them in our message for the final stretch of the season. This Tuesday, 4 April at 21:00, we face Osasuna in the second leg of our Copa semi-final.

Inspired by Iñaki 'Gari' Garitaonaindia's song ,'Amets' (Dream), the live version of which can be heard in the video released by the Club today, Athletic have compiled different photos of all the footballers that make up the men's first-team squad. The song's main chorus repeats the line "zatos jada nigana", which translates roughly as "dream come to where I am".

Combining photographs from their childhood with those from the day of their official debut in the red and white jersey, the video depicts a life journey marked by hope and the desire to make dreams come true.

Born in the town of Legazpi, as well as being one of the most recognisable figures in Basque music, Gari is also a great supporter of Athletic Club, which is why he allowed his song to be used in this new initiative.

He started out with the group Ziper, and later became the frontman of Hertzainak, the band with whom he released his first album in 1984, a year that also proved to be extremely special for Athletic Club. The band, of which Ernesto Valverde is an avid fan, played their last concert this January gone in Vitoria-Gasteiz. At the same time, since the mid-nineties, Gari has pursued a solo career, releasing popular hits such as 'Amets'.

It's song that perfectly encapsulates the players' and fans' aspirations, and includes verses with messages such as "red blood and white heart chasing a dream, in the hope that you'll appear again".

A dream that the Athletic Club players, San Mamés and the thousands of people across the world will look to take one step closer to reality this Tuesday night.
