Jun 6, 2023

Oier Zarraga will leave Athletic as the Club and player were unable to reach an agreement on renewing his contract, which was due to expire on June 30.

The midfielder played 72 games and scored two goals for the first team. He was also part of the side which won the Supercopa in 2021.

The 24 year-old has spent his entire career so far at Lezama, where arrived as an under-11. Zarraga climbed through the ranks until making his senior debut under Gaizka Garitano three seasons ago in a 2-0 LaLiga victory over Levante at San Mames. The following year, he made the definitive jump to the first team at the behest of then head coach Marcelino García Toral.

Athletic Club would like to thank Oier for his dedication and professionalism throughout all these years, and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
