Txus Vidorreta, ambassador for August

The Bilbao native, who proudly parades Athletic around the world of basketball, is the fifth coach in games in the history of the ACB and will receive his distinction before the match against Real Madrid

The coach from Bilbao Txus Vidorreta, the fifth in games in the history of the ACB, has been appointed by Athletic Club as its 125th anniversary ambassador in August. The charismatic basketball coach will receive his distinction in the hours before the league opener at San Mames against Real Madrid on 12 August, hours before returning to Tenerife to begin the pre-season. Txus Vidorreta joins Jon Rahm, Jokin Altuna, Honey Tahljieh, Thomas Hittzlsperger, Marino Lejarreta and Joane Somarriba (representing Basque fans and cycling), María Arthuer and Juan Villoro on the list of Athletic Club ambassadors during its 125th anniversary.

Vidorreta, the great basketball reference in Bizkaia, is already a fantastic loudspeaker for Athletic. He does not miss the opportunity to refer to our philosophy with pride, to the sense of red and white belonging of his wife, Sonia, and his three children, who have been accompanying him in his experiences outside Bilbao and always come to San Mamés whenever they can. In the hours leading up to this year's Cup final between Lenovo Tenerife and Unicaja, he commented: "I am very happy to play in a final against a coach I consider a friend (Ibon Navarro), between two coaches who are fans of a red and white team, used to playing and winning finals", he argued.

His ambitious character has led him to win two European titles with his last club, the last one in his beloved Miribilla, and an Intercontinental Cup. He has been a prophet in his own land, with promotions at Caja Bilbao and Bilbao Basket, with which he wrote great stories, including the unforgettable one of placing the team at the top of the ACB regular season in January 2008, a Cup semi-final and a Supercup runner-up finish. He has coached the Bilbao club for almost a decade, starting from La Casilla.

Olympic bronze medallist with Sergio Scariolo, it all started at Maristas. In addition to the aforementioned ACB clubs, he also coached La Palma, Estudiantes, Lucentum Alicante and Valencia Basket, with whom he won a Supercup and played in the Euroleague.
