Offering to the Virgin Mary of Begoña

Players from Athletic Club's first teams, together with president Jon Uriarte, Jose Angel Iribar and members of the Board of Directors, attended the traditional offering to the Virgin of Begoña, the patron saint of Biscay.

The president, in a brief speech, expressed some words of thanks "to the footballers, managers and directors, members and, in general, to all the Athletic fans who preceded us".

He continued: "We are here to remember them and pay tribute, because if Athletic Club is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, it is thanks to their legacy."

Iker Muniain and Marta Unzué, Athletic Club's captains, as well as Saioa and Hodei from the Genuine team, asked the Amatxu for a prosperous year. Numerous supporters, some of them very young, accompanied the Zurigorri attendees.

Jose Luis Achútegui, the parish priest of Begoña, officiated the ceremony, which has been held since 1930 and which ended with a minute's silence for all the members and fans who have passed away this year. May it be a successful year for both teams and for the rest of the club.
