Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde was frustrated that Los Leones could not pick up a result against FC Barcelona despite their positive performance.
A goal by Barça debutant Marc Guiu in the 80th minute saw Athletic fall to a 1-0 defeat at Olímpic Lluis Companys.
"We had it there at times," Valverde said in his post-match press conference. "We got into the final third and did some damage. It's a pity because we played really well."
The Zurigorri rattled Barça with their high-pressing in the first half and forced Marc-André ter Stegen into several saves.
Valverde added: “We were good and we put Barcelona under pressure. We just needed to convert some of our chances and score to put a bit of fear into them. Unfortunately, luck went against us at the end as the game was opening up."
