Athletic will play FC Barcelona in the Copa 2023/24 quarter-final

Athletic Club have drawn FC Barcelona in the 2023/24 Copa del Rey quarter finals. The single-leg tie will take place at San Mames next week (date and kick-off time to be confirmed), with Ernesto Valverde's Lions looking to reach a fifth consecutive Copa quarter-final.

The Blaugrana have got this far after defeating Barbastro and Unionistas de Salamanca in the previous two rounds.

Athletic and Barça have met a total of 45 times in the knockout competition, with Los Leones registering 15 wins, six draws and 24 losses. Since the rounds up until the semi-finals became single legs, they have faced off twice, with Athletic winning both encounters.

The most recent Copa clash took place in 2021/22. In an epic match, the Zurigorri beat Xavi Hernández's side in extra-time to book a place in the quarter-finals.

This Copa match-up tends to throw up classics, such as the 2019/20 quarter-final in Bilbao, where a 93rd-minute header by Iñaki Williams saw Athletic advance to the semi-finals.
